**WGB is a competitive swim club, rather than a learn-to-swim program. Athletes must already have basic swimming ability, water confidence, and water-safety skills before being considered for membership. WGB programs are not designed to teach foundational swimming or lifesaving skills.**

**All new athletes must complete an Athlete Assessment prior to their first registration.**

**Life jackets are not used in WGB programming.**

Gummy Bears is the entry-level group within the Whitehorse Glacier Bears Swim Club’s Pre-Competitive Roster Group. Designed for young swimmers who already have basic swimming ability, water confidence, and water-safety skills, the group introduces the foundations of competitive swimming in a fun, supportive, and developmentally appropriate environment.

Swimmers develop fundamental skills including body position, streamlines, flutter kick, and body alignment while being introduced to the movements and techniques of freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly. Practices focus on building strong foundational skills that swimmers can continue to develop as they progress through the Pre-Competitive Rosters.

Formal competition is not part of the Gummy Bears program. However, swimmers begin gaining exposure to the competitive swimming environment while developing the skills, confidence, and readiness needed to progress to Teddy Bears, the next group within the Pre-Competitive Roster.

Gummy Bears is offered in two sessions per season, giving families the flexibility to participate in one or both sessions based on their swimmer’s interest, development, and availability.

Teddy Bears is the next developmental group within the Whitehorse Glacier Bears Swim Club’s Pre-Competitive Roster Group. Designed for young swimmers who are ready to build on foundational competitive swimming skills, the group introduces greater structure, independence, and technical development in a positive and supportive training environment.

Swimmers continue developing technique across all four competitive strokes (freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly) while building skills in streamlines, underwater movements, starts, turns, and lane etiquette. Practices introduce greater training structure and begin developing endurance, body awareness, and the skills needed to swim with increasing consistency and control.

Teddy Bears swimmers gain further exposure to the competitive swimming environment through an introduction to racing skills, basic race procedures, stroke rules, and the role of officials. This prepares athletes for introductory racing opportunities while developing the skills, confidence, and readiness needed to progress to Cubs, the next group within the Pre-Competitive Roster.

Teddy Bears is offered in two sessions per season, giving families the flexibility to participate in one or both sessions based on their swimmer’s interest, development, and availability. Practices are held in the main lap pool at the CGC.

Cubs is the final developmental group within the Whitehorse Glacier Bears Swim Club’s Pre-Competitive Roster Group. Designed for young swimmers who are ready to build on their technical skills and transition toward competitive swimming, the group introduces increased training expectations, racing experiences, and greater athlete independence in a positive and supportive environment.

Swimmers continue refining technique across all four competitive strokes (freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly) while developing greater consistency in streamlines, underwater skills, starts, turns, and kicking. Practices also focus on building endurance, coordination, body awareness, and effective training habits that prepare swimmers for the demands of the Junior Competitive Roster Group.

Cubs swimmers gain increased exposure to the competitive swimming environment through skills such as pacing, use of the pace clock, basic race strategy, and an understanding of race and stroke rules. Athletes also begin participating in club time trials and swim meets, as appropriate, providing opportunities to gain racing experience, build confidence, and develop goal-setting skills.

Cubs is offered in two sessions per season, giving families the flexibility to participate in one or multiple sessions based on their swimmer’s interest, development, and readiness.
